The Archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese had entrusted the entire Anekal Taluka to the Jesuits of Karnataka in 1974. The pastoral care of the Christian community of Anekal was the main work that the archdiocese delegated to the Jesuits. The parish had under its jurisdiction 75 families and 300 Catholics, the majority belonging to the Banajiga community. This concurred with the recommendation of the province in the 1970s under Fr J.C. Pereira, that the Jesuits take up the Anekal area for integral development. The idea was that Jesuits at that time were dispersed in different dioceses, like Bangalore, Mysore, Bellary and Ooty; they would be brought to Anekal territory and would undertake coordinated team work there. As a result, the Jesuits took up the pastoral care of the Catholics of Anekal Taluka. Fr Francis Guntipilly as parish priest built a magnificent Church. Over the years apart from the pastoral care of the small Christian community, the Jesuits also engaged themselves in serving the poor of other backward communities as well, working for their welfare and empowerment. The efforts of Jesuits with the help of Canossian Sisters have done much to conscientize the people in Anekal Taluka.
